Gym & Fitness Class House Rules
These Gym House Rules govern the use of the open gym space (and all equipment contained therein) (the “Gym”), attendance at fitness and wellness classes, operated by 79 Borough Road Limited (or where relevant its group companies) (“The Ministry”) or attendance at fitness and wellness classes operated by third parties (“Classes”), at the shared workspace at 77-81 Borough Road, London SE1 (the “Centre”) by members of The Ministry (“Members”).
ACCESS TO THE GYM/CLASSES
- All Guests must digitally sign the waiver before first use of the Gym or attendance at Classes.
- Guests may not access the fitness studio (The Box) outside of guided class times unless authorised by a member of The Ministry staff.
GYM CONDUCT
- All areas and equipment used during your workout must be wiped down using the antibacterial wipes supplied.
- All equipment must be put away after use in the designated area as shown during the induction process.
- Members must not move any machines in the Gym, including any of the treadmills, skill mill, rower, Peloton bikes or air bike.
- Members must take reasonable care not to damage equipment and immediately notify a member of staff on reception if any damage is caused.
- Under no circumstances may items of kit be removed from the Gym or the fitness studio.
- Make every effort to stay hydrated and make use of the freely available water during exercise. No glassware is allowed in either the gym or any other rooms at Centre in which Classes take place.
- Members must wear appropriate clothing and shoes for exercise.
- Members must immediately clean up any spillages to avoid danger of slipping on equipment or the floor area.
- When picking up weights, use caution to avoid injury and be mindful of the risks associated with lifting free weights without the supervision of a qualified fitness professional.
- Use all weights, machines, and other equipment in the manner for which they are designed.
- Members doing floor work must ensure they keep a clearance of 2 metres behind the treadmills.
- The safety cord must always be attached to the Member’s waistband when using the motorised treadmills.
- Members must not jump on motorised treadmills whilst the belt is moving.
- Members should connect headphones via Bluetooth when using any digitally guided products to avoid upsetting other Members.
- Members are only allowed to use 1 locker per person and must only use the lockers for the storage of gym gear whilst using the Gym or attending Fitness Classes. All lockers must be emptied by 10pm on the day of use – any kit left in the lockers overnight will be removed The Ministry is not responsible for any damage to or loss of property or belongings whilst using the Gym and facilities.
- Members are not permitted to train others at the Centre unless they have been specifically authorised to do so by the Ministry and subject to the terms of such authorisation. Members are not permitted to admit personal trainers to the Centre for personal training or to receive personal training at the Centre except through personal trainers that have been specifically authorised by the Ministry to provide training and by arrangement with such personal trainers. Members who are found to be supplying or receiving Personal Training without authorisation will have their access to the Gym and Classes revoked and may face suspension or termination of membership.
- Prior consent of photography/videography must be obtained if other Members feature in the footage – i.e., any content captured of yourself that features people in the background.
- The gym is a safe space for all Members to workout, any person/s that is deemed to be intimidating or making other Members feel uncomfortable will have access revoked immediately. This includes staring, providing unsolicited advice, encroaching on another Member’s personal space, capturing photos/videos of Members without their consent and commenting on other Members form/appearance.
- The gym may be closed for maintenance and repairs and prior notice will be provided by Ministry team via email. Members are not allowed to enter the gym during these ad-hoc gym closures.
- Bare torsos are not permitted – keep your tops on.
EMERGENCY INFORMATION & MEDICAL DECLARATION
- I am aware that I must notify a member of staff on reception if I feel unwell or if an incident occurs in the Gym or at a Class and first aid is needed.
- In the event of an accident, medical emergency, or any situation requiring immediate assistance from Ministry staff or management, panic alarms are installed adjacent to both gym entrance doors. These alarms can be activated by pressing the designated red button. Activation of the panic alarm will immediately notify the reception desk, triggering an expedited response to provide necessary assistance.
- I confirm that to the best my knowledge and belief that I am in good health and not knowingly incapable of engaging in either active or passive exercise and where relevant have taken appropriate medical advice in relation to any pre-existing medical conditions telling me I am able to complete exercise. I understand that The Ministry and its agents (and where relevant, third-party operators of Classes) are not qualified to express an opinion on whether I am fit to safely engage in any form of exercise.
- I confirm that should my health or condition change or should I have any concerns with my health and fitness or my ability to exercise I will seek independent medical advice before engaging in any further physical activity and refrain from such activity until such time as I have had an opportunity to take such advice and only resume exercise in accordance with medical advice.
- I am aware of where my nearest fire exit is in case of an evacuation.
I am aware that there are significant risks involved in all aspects of physical exercise which include the risk of personal injury such as falls that can result in injury; injury due to improper use of equipment; and strains and sprains. I hereby acknowledge and agree that I have read, understood and will follow the above Gym/Fitness House Rules, Emergency Information and Medical Declaration, and Health Commitment Statement. I also acknowledge that in the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by the Ministry, the use of use of the Gym and attendance at Classes is entirely at my own risk and under my own medical advice.
Our commitment to you
- We will respect your personal choice, and allow you to make your own decisions about what exercise you can carry out. However, we ask you not to exercise beyond what you consider to be your own abilities.
- We will take reasonable steps to make sure that our equipment and facilities are clean and safe for you to use and enjoy for the normal purpose they were intended for. Bear in mind that we are not able to clean or inspect equipment and facilities after each use.
Your commitment to us
- Do not exercise beyond your own abilities. If you know or are concerned that you have a medical condition that might interfere with you exercising safely, you should get advice from a relevant medical professional before you use our equipment and facilities, and follow it.
Make yourself aware of any rules and instructions, including warning notices, and follow them. Exercise carries its own risks. When you are exercising, you are responsible for the risks involved. You should not carry out any activities that you have been told are not suitable for you.
